my take on march madness
| Yes, yes. My favorite time of the year is closely upon us. This is when school becomes a last thought and I am commonly seen sitting, standing, jumping, yelling and the like in front of the television watching the match-ups unfold. I will admit, I am not the best person to discuss "bracketology" with. But I sure do enjoy trying. This year was exceptionally hard. This field of 65 (really sixty four but you know, we have to be politically correct and say 65 because of this so called 'opening round game' when everybody knows that the selection committee couldn't make up their minds about if Coppin St. or Mt. St. Mary's would give UNC the biggest run). When in all reality, they were thinking in the back of their minds, "Hey, it doesn't really matter who we let it because Tyler Hansborough and Ty Lawson are going to whip their sorry little butts so let's just put them in." So here I sit on the "Opening Round" night, not really caring who wins. But, back to my bracket. It was quite challenging to fill out this year. I have watched 3 out of the 4 number 1 seeds play, and they are all, VERY good. Exceptional acctually. Truth be told, I love a good Cinderella story as much as the next guy. But my head won this year. I have all but Memphis going to the Final Four. Call me crazy, but I just think Texas is going to take their place and UCLA will be the surprise. (I haven't seen them play so I can't really know about them. But I am going with my gut.) On other years, I do not like UNC. Not at all. This year, I am more a Green Eggs and Ham story. I do not like UNC, I do not like them, you will see. But, just like Sam's friend, eventually I was won over. I know, I know, bandwagon jumper, flip flopper, that's what your saying. Just wait. Tyler Hansborough is good. The announcers talk him up, but seriously, they aren't joking. He's good. And when Ty Lawson is hott, he's hott. You just can't deny it. And I have always liked their coach, Roy Williams. Even when he coached at Kansas a few years back I like him. So, you know. Judge me. But let's see who's right in the end. Let me be honest though. This is truly better than Christmas for me. I've said it before and I will say it till the day I die. March Madness is just better because: A) You never know what is going to happen B) Instead of 1 day of presents you get a whole month C) It's basketball. Nothing is better than basketball. Thursday it starts. At 12:20, I will be stationed on my couch with CBS on and my brown paper bag securely positioned on my right in case I get too excited, ready to open my first present of the year. Xavier vs. Georgia. Here it comes! |
